Mountain Magic | Western Wildlife in Watercolor

Sometimes, painting a white animal is more about what you paint around it than the animal itself!
This week, my Connoisseurs and Warriors on Patreon joined me for Part 1 of our mountain goat painting, part of my Western Wildlife in Watercolor series.
We focused on building the surrounding landscape, using rich forest greens, atmospheric backgrounds, and textured rocks to bring our mountain goat forward. I also demonstrated how to create those wonderfully soft, wispy edges of the goat's fur without using masking fluid.
I love how the mountain goat is already emerging from the landscape, even though we've barely begun painting the animal itself!
Next week, we'll finish our mountain goat, adding the details, shadows, and subtle color variations that will bring this magnificent alpine creature to life.
